Wildwood Secondary doesn't look or feel like most middle school experiences. Instead of a rigid separation of subjects and several transitions each day, wel teach subjects as if they are tools that should be used together to solve real-world problems. Students move through an engaging 2-year curriculum, but with freedom to explore their interests more deeply, and as a member of a community. Everyday, time will be spent outside: observing, experimenting, reflecting, and absorbing. The school day will be rich in STEM experiences, project-based learning, and opportunities to hone both written and oral communication skills. Wildwood Secondary is a full-time middle school. Our students cover the same ground as public school students, but with several interesting side trips. Our students have the flexibility in their day to still be kids, to get up and move around when needed, and to dive more deeply into subjects that interest them. Our students go to high school with their eyes opened to the world through honest conversations about things that matter to them. They learn study skills, thinking skills, and life skills. We'd love every student that leaves Wildwood to be ready to take an AP class as well as to bake a loaf of bread or change a tire. The students that thrive with us are typically looking for a little more of something than they can get elsewhere: more flexibility, more academic scaffolding, more challenge, more enrichment, a more supportive community, more opportunities to push themselves to do hard things. Our small size allows us to tailor the approach to the students, and our Montessori-driven approach gives them the tools that they need to be successful and believe in themselves. Several times after explaining our approach to middle school, we hear, "That sounds like how middle school SHOULD be!"
