TRHF has in its short existence provided programs of historical and cultural interest to members and guests at bi-monthly meetings. These programs have served to unify local citizens around common interests in the past and a common desire to preserve the artifacts and stories be it fact or myth.
Participants have learned to research and compile family histories from genealogical databases; learned how to maintain and repair monuments and gravestones in cemeteries. We have learned of the contributions of the Texas Buffalo Soldiers and the impact on professional baseball by African-Americans from Texas.
We have featured videos and live programs from the Austin's Bullock Museum such as: "The Ship that Changed History" detailing French Explorer LaSalle's expedition on his ship LaBelle which led to the largest acquisition of land by America, the Louisiana Purchase ; "Myths and Unsolved Mysteries of the Texas Revolution" identifying the causes of the Texas Revolution, and key players and events which helped a small group of revolutionaries achieve independence from Mexico; and Spanish Missions of Texas gave little known truths.
Historians, professors and passionate Texans have spoken to members teaching about little known Texas history, the local foundry known for manufacturing pistols for the Civil War; Navasota sheriff, Frank Hamer, who "took out" notorious Bonnie & Clyde. We have critiqued and encouraged local history students as they presented their projects for local, area, and state History Fair competitions.
