BRAZOS VALLEY GIVES

Brazos Interfaith Immigration Network

About this Organization

BIIN runs several successful programs along with information sessions and workshops to help meet these needs. Briefly, our IRA walk-in program provides assistance or referrals to resources in the Bryan-College Station area. We offer assistance completing forms, applying for immigration paperwork or naturalization, translating documents, and make referrals to resources throughout the community. Additionally, we offer three 10-week sessions of citizenship classes each year, in English and in Spanish, to help local residents prepare for the citizenship exam and interview. As a complement to our citizenship classes, we offer a couple of different English as a Second Language classes, at different times of the week. ESL classes are designed to help participants prepare for the naturalization exam and interview, increase their abilities to use English in the workplace and in daily life, and actively support bilingualism at home and their children's education in local schools. We also offer various workshops throughout the year: we have hosted informational sessions on legal rights for immigrants, DACA, and rules of the road in the U.S., as well as workshops on applying for citizenship and developing a family safety plan.

In 2023, BIIN provided services for over 444 immigrants. Through our IRA walk-in clinics we served 267 clients with direct service or appropriate referral to resources in the community. Our citizenship classes provided instruction in U.S. history and government to 34 individuals, and our ESL classes at different levels welcomed 143 students. These services were provided for through the help of our 197 volunteers who provided over 4,418 hours. Halfway through 2024, we have already doubled the amount we've served at this time last year.
