The Arlene Campbell Humanitarian Foundation (ACHF) was created in 2016. In 2020 we began sending medical supplies to Ukraine including personal protective equipment to help during COVID. In September 2021, a 20' container of medical supplies was delivered as humanitarian aid through a grant received from the U.S. Department of Defense's Funded Transportation Program, supplying Ukrainians at the Heart Institute in Kyiv with needed medical supplies. Since the increase in Russian aggression in Ukraine February 24, 2022, the Arlene Campbell Humanitarian Foundation has sent medical supplies and equipment to 25 hospitals in Ukraine, worth over 3.5 million dollars. Two of these 25 hospitals that we support sustained heavy damage on July 8, 2024 when the Russian Federation sent a KH-101 missile that hit largest pediatric hospital in Ukraine called "Ohkmatdyt." The blowback from that direct strike rendered a second hospital on site, the Ukrainian Children's Center for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery inoperable. Children from ages 0-18 were evacuated to the adult clinic elsewhere in Kyiv. We are working to help the Ukrainian Children's Center for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery rebuild through assisting with the purchase of life saving medical supplies.
Our current project sponsored by the United Methodist Committee on Relief is assisting Ukrainians impacted by the current conflict with mental health support. In May of 2024 a team of professors led by Dr. Israel Liberzon of Texas A&M University trained 19 psychologists and Psychiatrists at a four day seminar in Kyiv on Post Truamatic Stress interventions. Five of these clinicians are working with us closely at a hospital in Vinnytsia, Ukraine. We are paying them to provide us with reports that show us how they are assisting patients and how effective the training we provided them is in their practice. Patients treated by these 19 clinicians include victims of Russian captivity, civilians, active duty soldiers who will return to the frontlines, and veterans. Your support will help us continue this mental health program into the future. This support is crucial, as 5 million veterans are anticipated by the end of this conflict according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Veterans Affairs.
Other humanitarian aid delivered has included food, shoes for the winter, and evacuation stretchers for wounded members of the Foreign Legion. Your support helps many vulnerable populations in Ukraine, providing life saving aid in the midst of an international conflict. When you turn on the news and hear about this war, you are not without agency. With your gift you can save lives!
