For the past 20 years, the Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary (SFWS) has remained the only wolf sanctuary in the State of Texas. SFWS rescues non-releasable wolves and wolfdogs from across the United States, many of which come from abusive or abandonment situations resulting from the illegal exotic carnivore pet trade.
As an organization, in addition to caring for these amazing animals, it is our mission to educate the public (including schools, community groups, and local animal care authorities) about the importance of wolves and their role in maintaining healthy ecosystems in the wild. We also advocate for the abolishment of wolf and wolfdog pet ownership in all counties of Texas.
On average, we receive over 300+ intake requests per year, and educate 15,000+ visitors per year at our sanctuary site. Currently the sanctuary is home to 5 wolves and 5 wolfdogs, with an expansion plan that will allow us to have as many as 36 wolves and/or wolfdogs as we continue to grow in our mission.
