Blackjack Volunteer Fire Department of Robertson County
About this Organization
We need your help to meet our basic budget needs for equipment and overall fire operations. Our budget for 2025 has been cut, while our calls for service is rapidly increasing. BJVFD has already responded to 125 calls this year. BJVFD is responding to multiple calls providing mutual aid due to increased demand for firefighters and a reduction in volunteers.
BJVFD responds to numerous calls for service including house fires, grass fires, car crashes, traffic control, and medical assistance. BJVFD responds to calls and provides assistance to other neighboring fire departments in Robertson and Brazos County. BJVFD regularly trains with Robertson and Brazos County VFDs to be able to better protect our community. Since 2020, BJVFD has seen an increase of 33% in call volume.
During the last year, BJVFD responded to 155 calls for service. We had 45 vegetation fires impacting over 171 acres. BJVFD regularly provides mutual aid through brush trucks, water, and personnel for other Robertson County VFDs as fires quickly spread in our dry and humid climate.
During the past year, over 45% of calls for service were for vehicle crashes along rural Farm to Market roads as well as traffic crashes along Highway 6 in Robertson County. Our response area from Old San Antonio Road (OSR) to Hearne City limits often is the scene of numerous car crashes, vehicle vs 18-wheeler truck accidents, and vehicle rollovers. We are often called to help extricate people out of their vehicles. During the past year, over 63% of our vehicle crash calls were on Highway 6. Our 15-mile stretch of Highway 6 is one of the last remaining parts of the State Highway that does not have lighting or a center divider. BJVFD is often called out for crashes at night to the dark, dangerous highway.
