As a volunteer board, we support the Adult Protective Services Case Managers for Unit 61, which serves the Brazos Valley and 7 surrounding counties. We serve as a stopgap for circumstances that exceed the limitations of a state-run entity. We provide:
• Emergency food boxes
• Educational events to educate the community on abuse, neglect, and exploitation of adults and how to spot it and report it.
• Durable medical equipment such as hospital beds, walkers, bed rails, etc.
• Funding for other miscellaneous items needed to help APS clients.

How do we impact the clients we serve?
Seniors like Miriam, who at 87 had lived on her own for nearly 12 years after Frank passed away. But then she had a stroke and needed some help. Her grandson moved in to assist her. After a few weeks, a friend came by to see her, and while their grandson was hesitant to let her in, she persisted and got to see Miriam. Miriam had digressed since their last visit. In addition, her home had overwhelming smells of urine and feces. The friend soon called Texas Adult Protective Services, which immediately sent out a Case Worker. In the end, Miriam was found to be malnourished and not properly cared for. There was no food in the house and filth everywhere. The APS worker could provide Miriam with a food box immediately and set out a plan to get proper care for her. The APS volunteer board also provided a gently used wheelchair, and once she completed rehab, she was able to get around the house quite well. Those two simple items - food and a wheelchair - were not items the APS Caseworker could have provided without the ongoing assistance of the Adult Protective Services Volunteer Board and are just two of the many items and assistance we are honored to provide.
