Benefiting Good Fly

Fundraiser Story

In 2017, I retired from 26 years of service in the US Air Force and managed a State Park for Texas Parks and Wildlife until 2021. I am an avid fly fisherman with a passion for serving those in need. I became an FFI Certified Casting Instructor in 2020.

With the help of Rusty Dunn and Alan King, Good Fly was
founded in 2020. Our motto is "Casting Flies to Renew the Mind
and Refresh the Spirit."

I am passionate about using the skills I have as a Casting Instructor
to teach first responders the stress-relieving practice of fly fishing.
It is fulfilling to watch as our workshop participants (First
Responders) put their thoughts on hold and consume themselves
with learning the stress-relieving tool of fly fishing for a day.

The mental and physical benefits fly fishing can offer to a person
(especially one experiencing chronic stress, anxieties, depression,
sleep deprivation, etc.) are profound.

Good Fly offers Free Workshops to First Responders in the Brazos
Valley Area of Texas during our Fall and Spring Season.  Improved
fundraising allows us to better serve your community and your
dollars directly support the emotional health of first responders,
their families, and their communities.

Sincerely,

Steve

About the Organization

Our Vision is Emotionally Healthy Communities. We offer free-one day casting workshops for the first responder community as a toll to reduce stress and anxiety. The art of fly casting has long been known to reduce stress and anxiety. The rhythmic meditative-like cadence of the casting stroke, and the required focus, are naturally therapeutic. This emotional good health extends to close family, co-workers, and those they touch. Good Fly - "Casting Flies to Renew the Mind and Refresh the Spirit."
