Fundraiser Story

Saying that fly-fishing saved my life is as much an overstatement as saying it changed my life is an understatement. Not only did fly fishing unleash a passion in me, but it created a life-long purpose to help others experience the joy and serenity of the sport. As a FFI certified casting instructor and fly-fishing guide, I have had endless opportunities to live my passion and purpose, which includes volunteering support for GoodFly™.

Goodfly is a non-profit offering one-day fly-casting workshops to first responders in the Brazos Valley. We teach the lifelong skill of fly casting that can renew the minds and refresh the spirits of people experiencing intense or sustained stress, delivering on our vision of emotionally healthy communities.

The mental and physical benefits fly fishing offers those experiencing stress and anxiety are profound. Watching our first responder workshop participants put their stressful thoughts on hold and consume themselves with learning the stress-relieving tool of fly fishing for a day is incredibly fulfilling.

We need your help in providing this community support to first responders. Please consider donating to GoodFly™ during the Brazos Valley Gives fundraising efforts.

About the Organization

Our Vision is Emotionally Healthy Communities. We offer free-one day casting workshops for the first responder community as a toll to reduce stress and anxiety. The art of fly casting has long been known to reduce stress and anxiety. The rhythmic meditative-like cadence of the casting stroke, and the required focus, are naturally therapeutic. This emotional good health extends to close family, co-workers, and those they touch. Good Fly - "Casting Flies to Renew the Mind and Refresh the Spirit."
