About this Organization

Six Kittens Rescue is the only neonatal-focused rescue in our county. We ensure that each of our kittens goes to loving, forever homes. We work specifically with neonates, as we believe that they are the most vulnerable population in a traditional shelter environment. We require all adopters to agree that each kitten/cat will remain indoors or with supervised outdoor time (leash/harness training/catio). We also require all adopters to agree never to declaw their new pet unless it is deemed medically necessary as recommended by their veterinarian. We personality-match kittens for their new family based on their lifestyle and family composition. We pride ourselves on high levels of socialization for kittens including socialization with children, dogs, and other cats. We are forthcoming with adopters about personality traits, and ongoing medical issues (if any), and ultimately select homes for kittens where we feel as though they will thrive in their new environment. SKR is currently in its fifth full year of operation. In 2023 to date, we have taken 191 kittens into our program and have been able to find loving, forever homes for 173 (159 already adopted and 14 pending adoptions). We have also been able to successfully TNR 20 community cats to help reduce the unwanted and feral cat and kitten population in our community. Over the course of our short, yet productive, tenure, we have been able to intake 1,025 cats/kittens and have been able to TNR 327 community cats. We take pride in the fact that none of our kittens are kept in kennels the entire time they are with us, but instead live with families in private homes as true members of their foster family until their forever home comes along.

While on the surface we may appear to serve strictly kittens, we love and value our community. We are always looking at ways that we can greater our reach to improve the lives of all Brazos Valley citizens. In addition to our animal rescue efforts, we have had several youth-serving events as part of SKR KYD (Kitten-Youth Directive). With these programs, we have worked with local youth in elevating their voices and supporting them in their animal welfare journeys. We have also had speaking arrangements with CSISD programs and various student organizations with TAMU.
